DEBRA CHANNON COUNSELLING
DEBRA CHANNON COUNSELLING
Walk & Talk therapy involves having counselling sessions outside. Being outside releases endorphins and can be relaxing and mood-enhancing, this can help our minds become more open to new ideas and perspectives.
The physical momentum associated with Walk & Talk therapy can help create a sense of movement in other aspects of life; helping us think differently about things that before may have seemed immovable. And walking side by side can remove the intensity of eye contact that some find uncomfortable in other forms of counselling.
How Walk & Talk works in practice
My usual practice is to have a minimum of one online session before we agree to a Walk & Talk session. Walk & Talk can then be a regular feature of our work together or arranged as and when.
We would typically meet at the same time and place for each session. In advance we would have discussed the pace and nature of route that would best suit you. During the session, you can choose to walk throughout or to sit down or rest at suitable stopping places.
As in a standard counselling session, I would support you by providing a safe, non-judgemental space for you to talk about your feelings, thoughts, beliefs, experiences and concerns.
Walk & Talk sessions can take place in most weather conditions, subject to risk assessment. I will let you know what would be appropriate to wear and bring with you given the anticipated walking conditions and weather forecast.
I will have risk-assessed all routes that I use and I will have taken into account any medical or accessibility needs you have told me about. Walk & Talk takes place in public spaces and I endeavour to use routes that are quiet.
Walk & Talk sessions are 60 minutes and cost £75.
